September Reflections: Learning to Lead Myself with Humanity
The end of September brought reflection on what the month was really about for me. I thought that I would be providing direction on how to be the best relational leaders you could possibly be, and instead, I found myself reflecting and finding myself through my own courageous self-leadership.
I found myself lost between my wants and hopes for my career and future and what reality actually brings. Meanwhile, life just keeps life-ing, and you don’t have a choice but to keep on going.
One of the things I struggled with was finding my voice in my podcasting. I am finding that the art of podcasting is not so cut and dry for everyone, and maybe those who do it make it look easier than it is. I am not giving up on podcasting, but I need to find my authenticity and truth behind my own words and the objective I have for my audience—not something that was corporate-born in me.
In addition, my business is moving along slowly, and there is so much advice out there on what one can do to improve their success. But what they don’t prepare you for is all the variables and obstacles of your everyday life that can get in the way. We talk about and hear the words “work-life balance,” but no one has ever told me how to achieve that or whether it looks the same for everyone. I don’t think it does.
Finally, I realize that even though I come to all of you with experience and hopes for supporting a more human-centered leadership approach to what you are doing out there as leaders, I wasn’t being very human-centered toward myself. As a result, I got lost in my own making.
I hope that all of you had the chance to grow and learn in the month of September. I am sure that for some of you, it was a month of much change and reflection. If it wasn’t, I hope you had the opportunity to sit in stillness and catch your breath before the next wave hits.
